Introducing the MAKING-CITY Toolkit: Your Guide to Creating Positive Energy Districts

We’re excited to announce the launch of the MAKING-CITY Toolkit, your essential guide to transforming urban areas into Positive Energy Districts (PEDs). Developed as part of the MAKING-CITY project, a Horizon 2020 initiative (2019-2024) coordinated by the CARTIF Foundation, this toolkit is designed to help cities and communities take the first steps toward creating sustainable, energy-efficient urban environments.

What is a Positive Energy District (PED)?

A Positive Energy District is an urban area that generates more energy than it consumes, focusing on integrating renewable energy sources and optimizing energy efficiency. PEDs are a cornerstone of the transition to sustainable cities, contributing to climate goals and fostering local energy independence.

What’s Inside the Toolkit?

This toolkit offers practical guidance for citizens, city officials, and private sector actors interested in starting a PED in their city. It covers three core areas:

  1. The PED Concept: Gain a clear understanding of what a PED is, how it functions, and why it’s essential for sustainable urban development.
  2. Stakeholder and Citizen Engagement: Learn how to engage local stakeholders and citizens in the PED process, ensuring broad support and participation.
  3. Business Models and Finance: Explore financial strategies and business models to fund and sustain your PED projects.

Ready to Get Started?

Whether you’re an urban planner, local official, or concerned citizen, the MAKING-CITY Toolkit provides the knowledge and resources you need to kickstart your PED journey.
