Leveraging Data to Inform Impactful Policy Outcomes2 September 2020 From affordable mobility for all to zero emissions, every city has goals for what they want their transportation systems to help achieve. Cities know that micromobility data can signal whether new services are advancing those goals, but with so much data, knowing exactly which to use can be challenging. In this webinar, we’ll dive into how Micromobility & Your City, a new mobility data tool from NUMO, can help cities address transportation systems holistically and proactively by tying municipal goals to data needs. This crucial moment provides us an extraordinary opportunity to assess and RESET our priorities and actions for the built environment. We must remind ourselves that all the needed elements to bring forth a brighter, more promising future are possible now: affordable clean energy and housing; climate adaptive architecture and planning; buildings and infrastructure as carbon sinks; forest and biodiversity recovery; walkable communities; and free access and close proximity to open space and recreational areas. The global teach-in, scheduled as full-day "how-to" events in different global regions, will bring together the most effective and regionally-specific architecture and planning strategies, building materials, construction methods, design tools, and practices and policies for creating livable and sustainable communities, and dramatically and rapidly reducing embodied/operational carbon emissions as we RESET our targets and actions to meet the Paris Agreement.Registration is now open for the CarbonPositive RESET! 1.5°C Global Teach-In. The global teach-in is free, scheduled as full-day “how-to” events in different global regions, and will showcase the most effective building materials, construction methods, design tools, architecture and planning strategies, practices and policies for dramatically and rapidly reducing the embodied and operational carbon emissions as we take this critical moment to RESET targets and actions to meet the Paris Agreement. Join Architecture 2030 and experts from around the world this September to learn and accelerate the changes needed to make carbon reductions that can limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial temperatures. CarbonPositive RESET! will be segmented into morning general sessions and afternoon breakout sessions that will explore all aspects of the built environment - check out theagenda for more information. All day: World Green Building WeekAll day: World Green Building Week All day We’re calling on the building sector, policymakers and governments to take urgent action to deliver net zero buildings. We’re also calling on them to provide a showcase for those leaders already taking action to show where, why and how they are achieving it. It is time to bring these solutions to scale, and industry is ready to deliver. Our campaign to #ActOnClimate is threefold:For Communities – net zero buildings support a healthier and more sustainable built environment, creating thriving and resilient communities. For the Planet - buildings account for more than one-third of global carbon emissions. It’s vital we prioritise net zero buildings today to protect our planet and future generations.Net Zero Buildings for Economies - investing in new and existing net zero buildings today can stimulate innovation, activate supply chains and create jobs. |

The Sustainable City 2020 conference follows a series of very successful meetings that started in Rio (2000), followed by Segovia (2002), Siena (2004), Tallinn (2006), Skiathos (2008), A Coruña (2010), Ancona (2012), Kuala Lumpur (2013), Siena (2014), Medellin (2015), Alicante (2016), Seville (2017) and Valencia (2019). The meeting always attracts a substantial number of contributions from participants from different backgrounds and countries. The variety of topics and experiences is one of the main reasons behind the success of the series. Urban areas result in a series of environmental challenges varying from the consumption of natural resources and the subsequent generation of waste and pollution, contributing to the development of social and economic imbalances. As cities continue to grow all over the world, these problems tend to become more acute and require the development of new solutions. The challenge of planning sustainable contemporary cities lies in considering the dynamics of urban systems, exchange of energy and matter, and the function and maintenance of ordered structures directly or indirectly supplied and maintained by natural systems. The task of researchers, aware of the complexity of the contemporary city, is to improve the capacity to manage human activities, pursuing welfare and prosperity in the urban environment. Any investigation or planning on a city ought to consider the relationships between the parts and their connections with the living world. The dynamics of its networks (flows of energy-matter, people, goods, information and other resources) are fundamental for an understanding of the evolving nature of today’s cities. Large cities are probably the most complex mechanisms to manage. They represent a fertile ground for architects, engineers, city planners, social and political scientists, and other professionals able to conceive new ideas and time them according to technological advances and human requirements. The Sustainable City Conference addresses the multidisciplinary components of urban planning, the challenges presented by the increasing size of the cities, the number of resources required and the complexity of modern society. Location: Rome, Italy Organised by: Wessex Institute, UK & University of Rome 'La Sapienza' |

Green, Equitable, InclusiveCities Designing Smarter Forest Plans & PoliciesGreen, Equitable, InclusiveCities Designing Smarter Forest Plans & Policies29 September 2020 Cities face unprecedented pressure to protect the health of their residents, provide access to outdoor green spaces, and address social disparities. At the same time, cities are facing rising costs from climate change, a global economic downturn and the prospect of tight municipal budgets. Forests and other nature-based solutions (NBS) can provide valuable health and economic benefits for city residents while fighting climate change, often at good value for money. But cities can cause unanticipated problems and aggravate existing inequalities if they fail to design their forest-related plans and policies thoughtfully. This virtual event will highlight the latest research and practice from Cities4Forests, an initiative led by more than 60 cities around the world, to better conserve, manage, and restore forests and other natural infrastructure. The event will showcase city leadership from Medellín, Colombia which has implemented an award-winning Green Corridors program. Speakers will also demo two new online resources from Cities4Forests:Urban Forests for Healthier Cities: Policy, Planning, Regulations, and Institutional Arrangements Social Equity Considerations for Cities’ Decision Making Related to Inner, Nearby, and Faraway Forests. These guides are being deployed as a tool to help cities adapt to climate change through the Global Commission on Adaptation’s Cities Action Track. They will also be highlighted at the upcoming Climate Adaptation Summit in January. The event will be hosted in both English and Spanish.
