Scalable Cities community eventFrom Solutions to System ChangeScalable Cities community eventFrom Solutions to System Change
1 June 2022 – 2 June 2022
Welcome to theScalable Cities community event “Moving from solutions to system change” hosted by theIRIS Smart Cities project on the 1st and 2nd of June in Utrecht.
Cities of all sizes need to accelerate their transformation to climate-neutrality in 2050.The sense of urgency and pressure has never been higher – with a target for 100 cities to be climate neutral and a cut to EU-wide emissions in total by at least 55% by 2030.
Since 2014, a pioneering group of 120 cities have been working hard to deploy over 500 solutions in more than 20 countries through the European Smart Cities and Communities Lighthouse programme. But mainstreaming these solutions and creating a system change in cities is proving challenging. For this reason, this event brings the Scalable Cities community together to ask the following question: Is it time to replicate success factors and enabling conditions, rather than solutions?
Event attendees will be encouraged to share and explore the untold stories, triggers and conditions that enable cities to move on from the mere replication of technical solutions to a new innovation narrative based on a more comprehensive systems change. The interactive discussions will: Capitalise on opportunities for climate neutral and smart cities Bust replication myths and explore the realityDiscover triggers and conditions for systems-changeReframe the innovation narrative regarding the scale-up of smart city solutionsConnect with citizens & stakeholders.
Expect fresh and frank takes from key actors, unconventional take-aways, inspiring walking tours and informative in-person meetings with peers. Keep an eye on the event programme, which will be updated with further details in due course

URBACT City Festival 2022URBACT City Festival 2022

The event will be organised under the French presidency of the Council of the European Union and will take place in Pantin / Greater Paris.

The spirit of the place will be essential to achieve the carbon neutrality challenge of this edition of the Festival. Using an eco-oriented venue powered by renewable energy, with local, seasonal and plant-based food, waste collection and composting, and looking at carbon offsetting to compensate for participants’ travels and the remaining carbon footprint, are some of the actions that will hopefully pave the way for further carbon-neutral events and project practices throughout URBACT.

The Climate Innovation Forum returns for its fourth year, as an online and in-person event during London Climate Action Week. The agenda will explore the UK's progress in reaching net zero, the successes and the failures and what needs to be done to raise ambition. Last year, The Forum convened 5,000 senior policymakers from local authorities, national UK government, investors, climate-tech solution providers, heads of sustainability from FTSE 500 companies, and NGO’s in order to close the gap between ambition and action. 150 world-class speakers provided compelling keynotes, contributed to high-level panel sessions and deep-dive industry tracks, and joined interactive roundtables.

18 July 2022 – 22 July 2022
Ensuring a sustainable future and a better quality of life for all. These are the biggest challenges that cities and regions are called to face in the next decade. While the European Union encourages urban planners, architects, researchers and the civil society to join forces and shape “more beautiful, sustainable and inclusive forms of living together”, governments all around the world are looking for solutions to turn urban areas into greener and more digital places, resilient to the threats of pandemics and climate change. The fourth edition of Smart and Sustainable Planning for Cities and Regions (SSPCR 2022) is the right platform to address the key issues of today and rethink the way we live.
