Energy Transition Summit
25 May 2021 – 27 May 2021
The global energy sector and system is the backbone of the green economy. From upstream to downstream, the sector must accelerate it’s transition to net-zero, continue to adopt new technologies and start to embrace digitisation and decentralisation over the next decade
The global net-zero transition depends on the energy sectors ability to support the rapidly increasing demands for electricity, the deployment of smart infrastructure to manage energy more effectively and the approach we take to emerging markets clean energy transitions.
The Energy Transition Summit provides key market insights, trends and opportunities over the next decade as the energy sector prepares to support a global green economy.

EU Green Week 2021 - Zero Pollution
31 May 2021 – 4 June 2020
Pollution affects everybody – through the air we breathe, the water we drink or the land we grow our food on. It is the largest environmental cause of multiple mental and physical diseases, and of premature deaths, especially among children, people with certain medical conditions and the elderly. But pollution does not affect everybody equally. People who live in more deprived areas, very often live close to contaminated sites, or in areas where there is a very high flow of traffic. Pollution is also one of the main reasons for the loss of biodiversity. It reduces the ability of ecosystems to provide services such as carbon sequestration and decontamination. But it can be prevented. The EU Action Plan toward a Zero Pollution Ambition is a key action of the European Green Deal scheduled for spring 2021. It will help to create a toxic-free environment across the EU by better monitoring, reporting, preventing and remedying pollution from air, water, soil, and consumer products.
It will also support the post-COVID 19 recovery by helping to rebuild a more sustainable EU economy, creating job opportunities and reducing social inequalities. The European Green Week 2021 will be dedicated to the ‘zero pollution ambition’. It will also look at other relevant European Green Deal initiatives, such the climate initiatives, the upcoming Chemicals Strategy, as well as initiatives in the field of energy, industry, mobility, agriculture, fisheries, health and biodiversity.
EU Green Week 2021 will be an opportunity to engage with all stakeholders and interested citizens on how we can work together to make the ambition for a zero pollution and toxic-free environment a reality.

Reimagine SeriesNature Based SolutionsReimagine SeriesNature Based Solutions
4 June 2021
Reducing global emissions is essential to mitigate the threats of climate change but not sufficient to tackle the entire challenge. Protecting and restoring our plant is the other half of the solution. Nature is the life support system for people, the planet and for profit.
Nature-Based Solutions are increasingly recognised as a critical component of climate mitigation and adaptation. For the private sector, national and local governments, Intergovernmental organisations and environmentalists alike, a growing recognition of our natural capital is resulting in exponential benefits for communities, businesses and climate change.
To mark World Environment Day 2021 and to launch the Roadmap to COP26 Reimagine Series, we bring you Nature Week: Investing in life's support system, a 1-day programme designed to identify the barriers of implementation and create key action points to progress the nature-based solutions agenda ahead of COP26.

Smart Cities Marketplace Forum - A Partner Event of the EU Green Week
9 June 2021
This year's edition of the Forum will be an official partner event of the EU Green Week. It will be linked to the EU Action Plan toward a Zero Pollution Ambition as a key action of the European Green Deal.
In this context, the aim of the Forum and the consolidated matchmaking – promoted by the European Commission under the Smart Cities Marketplace – is to:
- demonstrate the high-level commitment of the European Commission and its Smart Cities and Communities initiatives to the promotion of zero pollution and smart cities based on a European smart city best practice model,
- discuss the future of Smart (Sustainable) Cities and the Smart Cities Marketplace in its function as a hub for synergising with other relevant EU initiatives,
- share best practices and good examples from the wider Smart Cities Marketplace context, including the Action Clusters and Initiatives of the Marketplace, as well as adjacent initiatives, and
- initiate a dialogue on how successful innovations and demonstrations can be adjusted to Zero Pollution contexts, and, vice versa, which best practices and excellent smart city innovations from the environmental and sustainable scene deserve more attention.
The event, held online, includes a public two-day conference with a mixture of high-level keynotes, plenaries and engaging workshop sessions to show that Smart Cities are a key factor regarding for example Clean Energy, the Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, the Renovation Wave and specific activities in Transport & Mobility as well as the digital solutions context. The Smart Cities Marketplace Matchmaking funnel provides matchmaking geared to specific needs of city administrations and informs about financial instruments. It helps Smart Cities Marketplace stakeholders to realize their plans and projects – the essence of the Smart Cities Marketplace’s operation.

How to share urban good practices?Cities face similar challenges wherever they are in Europe. The good news is that cities are constantly designing and implementing new solutions. The bad news is that they’re still not so good at sharing these. Why is this – and what can we do about it? To answer these questions, URBACT launched 23Transfer Networks in January 2019.
Shaped by an URBACT defined methodological framework of ‘understand, adapt, re-use’, the 23 Transfer Networks have focused on very different themes ranging from public procurement to urban gardens to music schools to play. In addition, the Transfer Networks have deployed the URBACT methodological framework in different ways… Everyone learnt along the way, and it’s #TimetoShareIn June, the URBACT City Festival is back!
URBACT is thrilled to invite you to a virtual edition of our flagship URBACT City Festival on 15, 16 and 17 June 2021. Registrations will open during the first week of April. Meanwhile, save the date and follow us on #TransferNetworks and #TimetoShareURBACT City FestivalURBACT City Festival

Recently, district heating networks are combined with building side distributed heat pumps and this configuration provides better energy efficiency of the network. This configuration allows to supply both heat and cold using the two pipe network configuration. This presentation will present the results of a study with a configuration of circulating low temperature water in the network and having building side heat pump to lift/drop the temperature to the desired level and compares it with the traditional district heating networks. These networks are designed for Glasgow City Centre using Comsof Heat, an automated GIS based district heating planning and cost calculation tool.
