ICLEI World Congress 2021 will showcase how local and regional governments across the ICLEI network, together with their partners, are advancing sustainable urban development worldwide.
Participants will learn about and exchange on cutting edge issues and challenges in the field of sustainable urban development. The thematic framework for the congress program will be constructed around ICLEI’s five development pathways: Low emission development, nature-based development, circular development, resilient development, equitable and people-centered development.
Various session formats from high level plenaries to workshops and networking offerings will be part of the congress program.

Europe continues to be at the forefront of global sustainable finance. Climate Action, in partnership with UNEP FI, are delighted to announce the 2021 Sustainable Investment Forum Europe taking place digitally across two weeks in April.
The Forum will convene asset owners and managers, rating agencies, banks, UN and Government policymakers, investors, development banks, think tanks, and NGOs committed to driving forward the sustainable finance agenda
Through virtual, interactive debates, delegates will be able to shape the discussion, build relationships, and network with key industry players in the global sustainable investor market, aligning strategies to meet UN SDGs, whilst ensuring a fair and equitable global society as the world continues to adapt to the fallout from COVID-19.

Renovating historic buildings for a low-carbon built heritage
Universally recognised as emblems of many cities, historic buildings account for a quarter of Europe’s existing construction. Retrofitting such buildings presents many opportunities for reducing carbon emissions but can also present many challenges for preserving historic and aesthetic traits and as such, particular and specific care is vital.
Given the unique character of each building, standard energy saving measures are often not viable. Instigating interdisciplinary procedures for renovation and developing affordable and efficient technologies which are compatible with conservation needs are essential for the survival of built heritage and for reducing its environmental impact.
The SBE21 Heritage Conference brings together scholars and practitioners working in the fields of energy efficiency and historic building conservation to foster multidisciplinary dialogues and find new retrofit approaches to save our common heritage and guarantee a sustainable future.

14 April 2021In December 2019, the European Commission has presented the “European Green Deal”, a set of policy initiatives aiming at ensuring the EU becomes climate neutral by 2050. These policy initiatives have strong implications for the energy sector, and for the energy storage sector in particular. New energy storage technologies will supply more flexibility and balance in the grid, providing a back-up to intermittent renewable energy and contribute to seasonal energy storage challenges. The challenges can be addressed by innovative hybrid energy storage materials, devices and systems that combine existing and new solutions. The EERA JP ES webinar will bring together research and industry communities involved in energy storage, material science (Artificial Intelligence, Materials Accelerator Platforms) and particle accelerator to discuss potential collaboration and the best way forward to create an active and persistent eco-system enabling innovation in Materials for Hybrid Energy Storage.

This event aims to deepen our understanding as to how Smart Specialisation can be an effective tool to help territories recover from the current pandemic-induced crisis and discover new opportunities for more sustainable and inclusive economies. For this, we first need to understand what worked and what did not work in the previous programming period 2014-2020 and identify a set of sound recommendations for the Smart Specialisation of the next generation. This workshop offers a unique forum to practitioners, policy-makers and researchers for discussing concrete achievements, good practices, and challenges related to implementing the Smart Specialisation policy in EU regions, such as:- How to ensure coordinated policy initiatives at international, national and regional level to mitigate the COVID-19 economic crisis and promote a swift recovery?
- How can place-based policies play a role in tackling the severe socio-economic impacts of COVID-19?

The aim of the info webinar is to take attendees trough the purpose, process and requirements of the Call for Replicants. Find out more about why you should become a DECIDE Replicant, and how you can apply. Attendees will have the chance to pose any questions on the project, the pilots and the application process. More detailed information on the call process will be provided on the project website. The event will take place on 15 April from 14:00 to 15:00 CEST.
The aim of DECIDE is to better understand how to successfully set-up and roll-out Energy Communities or energy collective actions in Europe.More especially the project investigate how specific types of individuals or groups can be motivated to join (what information is needed, which kind of communications and interactions work best to encourage participation), what are the legal barriers that prevent the uptake of such initiatives and which are current and emerging business models that such initiatives can tap on. The project continuously tests and transfers this knowledge in seven pilot projects across seven different European countries.
The project has opened its Call for DECIDE Replicants. The call is open from 8 April 2021 to 4 May 2021 to any energy community or collective action established in an EU Member State or an associated EU country. With this initiative, DECIDE is looking forward to applying its knowledge to help European energy communities or collective actions growing and becoming examples that can be further inspire similar initiatives.Please take a look at the DECIDE Call for Replicants on the project website, where you’ll find all relevant materials and also a self-assessment tool to understand if your energy action qualifies as an energy community or as collective action.
